The study surveyed 1,284 professional caregivers and found that over 70% considered first shift their ideal preference, while fewer reported a willingness to work 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and live-in positions. Clearly, this is problematic for employers, who are in need of quality caregivers even during these less popular hours.
According to the report:
- 50% of caregivers would definitely consider a different shift if employers offered to pay their cell phone bill (up to $75/month).
- 56% of caregivers would definitely consider a different shift if they knew they would get their preferred shift within three months.
- 62% of caregivers would definitely consider a different shift if employers offered paid training, CEUs, or tuition reimbursement.
"Some of the incentives noted in the study either don't cost any money or wouldn't cost much," comments Brandi Kurtyka, Chief Marketing Officer of myCNAjobs. "As the market becomes more competitive to hire flexible, yet quality caregivers, it's interesting to explore strategies that your competitors may not (yet) be doing."
